The real question is, does one person, who happens to be Mormon and seeking the Presiency of the United States, pose a danger to the interests of the nation at-large? Can one person subjugate the interests of the nation to his (or her) religious beliefs? I believe the answer is "No.
i agree when it comes to the presidency, in fact romney might bend over backward to show his willingness to subjugate HIS religion, not the other way around (ie, his original 'pro-choice' stance to get elected in MA)
not at all like political structure where the MAJORITY of lawmakers are of the same religion...in utah, you have pragmatic mormons who would like to change certain laws, but refuse to act because they know they will be turned out of office as a 'true believer' will take the opportunity to demagogue.....so either by conviction or coercion, mormon beliefs are dominant in lawmaking....and yes, of course, it's a big country, and no one is forcing me to live here <g>
i am highly unlikely to vote for romney because of the cognitive dissonance i think one needs to be an adherent of mormonism, not because i think he would try to impose his beliefs on the country |
