I do believe this is a long term sustainable trend. I do not think this is a fad. In the 1970's, it was all about getting off the oil because of the oil embargo by the Middle East. That was not sustainable. However, now there is a perfect storm. There is the very large desire to not fund terrorism in the Middle East with our oil dollars. There's the indisputable fact of global warming from greenhouse gases. And there is the increasing cost competitiveness of solar, wind, and other renewables. Take away the oil subsidies and renewables become even more cost competitive.

The 70's was a fad. This is a new trend. Why don't I invest? I think I will. I'm 4 years from retirement, so I'm horribly conservative right now, but maybe I'll throw just a little bit at that ETF you were talking about. Seems to me there's already been a pretty big runup in renewables. But it is becoming increasingly likely that Democrats will win an even bigger majority in both houses and there will be a Democratic President in 2008. Given that likelihood, there will be plenty more money to make between now and then.
