As you remind us all, Stalin just forced his millions, farmers or what, to move on towards the German lines until they run out of ammo.
Stalin's boys had the choice of getting shot from behind or jumping out of protection towards the German lines and draw fire.
Amazing they always preferred the German bullets over their own "friendly fire".

Reminds me of how Hannibal and a few thousand of his troops wiped out the 15,000 Romans at Trasimeno in 217BC.

Long before the art of war deteriorated to planned massacres on anybody at any price.
