The website says the batteries will last for
at least 100k miles. Here in Washington State
we would charge our Teslas with hydro power,
and that renews every long soggy winter.

Fine. What do you think they use in W. Virginia? HINT: They have lots of coal there.
In CA lots of NG is used. Clean burning. EXCEPT: It's a fossil fuel. And its produces H2O vapor. A greenhouse gas.
C(2n)H(2n+2) + ((5n+1)/2)O2 = 2nCO2 + (n+1)H2O

I wasn't able to load the buy tab and get
a price

No price. Hmmm. Do I smell S-C-A-M?

presumably there is a waiting list
and this is an expensive sports car.

Try $90K. Rumored.

The best way to cut back American imports ofossil fuel, is to add a couple bucks a gallon
to the cost and get people on the bus.

YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!

If gas were $6 a gallon, I might consider the fuel
efficient Honda Civic, which gets twice the
mileage as my Taurus.

Let me take a wild stab here. You are against Bush's tax cuts because they favor the rich (while liking such poor candidates as Gore, Hillary, and Edwards). Now who do you think $6 gas will hurt more: (a) a garderner's assistant making $30K/yr or (b) Al Gore?

Of course in the summertime, you might as well drive nothing--just keep your biketires inflated.
Yeah. Right. Commutes of 30, 50 100, 200 and up miles are common here and YOU claim the right to force them onto a bike???? And don't yell "$90K electric car!"; if they could afford THAT, they could afford to live closer to work.

Saving the car for the crappy season,
my fuel inefficient Taurus will last a long time--
many cold rainy winter commutes.

No conscious? Didn't you see Al Gore's science fiction film?

I probably wont be in an electric car for at least
another decade.

They MIGHT maybe have batteries at a price that's actually affordable by other than latest-hottest-thing-self-alleged VC's like Lizzie by then. Maybe. I seriously doubt it.
I could be bore you with element electronegativities, proportions in the earth's crusts, battery construction, and element and battery prices here, but I guarantee you won't like the results.
