>>>Steve, RE: "Will CAD vendors always keep their tools
away from x86 machines ?"

Is this spoken in jest or sarcastically? We run Autocad, Cadkey, Solidworks, HP solid
modeling and all other CAD programs on Pentium Pro or Pentium II based PCs now.
The Suns have been put to pasture. (Actually the Sun monitors are reused by
connecting them to a Sun monitor interface card in the PC).

In the EDA industry. That is the chip design CAD world. SUN
is still by far the most dominant platform. SUN generated over
1 billion dollars of revenue due to the ECAD world. This is
primarily due to the power hungry requirements of electronic
circuit simulation which requires large multi-processor machines.
And many of the software are written for UNIX only.

However, the trend is that many ECAD vendors are beginning to port
their software onto NT based machines. SUN will reponde however,
which very low price and powerful workstations of their own in
the very near future.
