PS --- I've got a fairly long posting history here, where I've laid out my views that America (& the West in general) stands to BENEFIT VERY MUCH from a drag-out brawl between the Sunni and the Shia extremists, and the regional powers that stand behind them.

CERTAINLY benefit MORE then if we continue pouring TRILLIONS of BORROWED DOLLARS (and some of the lives and bodies of the best among us) out on the sands of that artificial nation called 'Iraq'. (In truth, ALL SIDES over there are pretty much just trying to USE Uncle Sam to fight their enemies for them, and to enrich themselves.)

But, when the inter-Islamic Civil War flares up, they will be forced to pump oil FULL OUT to pay for the very expensive war (just as they had to in the 1980s.)

And, ultimately, the extremists on both sides will fail (in Iraq, military potentials are fairly balanced...), and lose support among their publics... but even in the SHORT-RUN, their attentions will be forced inward toward the 'apostate' religious enemies and the Arab/Persian and Kurd/Turkomen rivalries... and we will benefit from that as well.
