My experience with the terminally ill is that once they accept the fact that they will die they wish to be left alone or at least not stirred up by news and problems of the world. The pain is gone, the struggle is over. If the patient loves you, he/she may make a gesture of the hand to invite you to sit down for a while. The patient may just hold your hand and ask you to sit in silence. Such moments of silence are the highest forms of communications and an honor for those who are not uncomfortable in the presence of a dying person. My presence just confirmed that I will be around until the end. We listened to the song of a bird from the outside. Dying is not frightening. Aristotle says it's just a part of the process of living that comes to completion. Poor Aristotle.
