I have been threatened many times in my life. I have never backed down under threat of blackmail or terror. There are many ways to declare 'bring it on', but I see nothing gleeful about it. It is, at least for me, the sober realization that you must stand up to such a challenge, inspite of potentially awful consequences. Threats of blackmail or terror must always be opposed without hesitation. Someone lacking such fortitude would naturally prefer to view it differently.
