because the population wants large cars or suv's , wants power under the hood. and is not interested in drilling off the coast line where there is plenty of oil and gas. When the public ever gets interested we will do something until then the green folks, etc will run the policies like Gore and nuke plants will not get built, refineries will not get built. and detroit and others will not work very hard at improving the mileage in cars that will not sell.
