Well, it is not the candidates' statements that are horrifying - most of the guys are regressive chickenhawk bullies. It is the studio audience's applause that is horrifying. Thankfully, they are in a minority now.

In fact, the only candidate who was not so eager to torture was McCain (apart from the libertarian Ron Paul, probably the only decent Republican left), and he was also the only one to have faced the horrors of war and torture first-hand.
