Not that the US is dependent on any UN authorization, but the resolution authorized use of force, and it wasn't rescinded. It was temporarily moot because of the cease fire, but if the cease fire is violated, no new authorization is needed to resume the use of force.

If that was the case, idiot, then why did the US think of getting a second Security Council resolution, and then abandon the effort after it became clear they won't win it??

In the long run I'd like to see Pakistan have a real democracy, but in the short run that isn't going to happen...

But it will happen fairly soon in Iraq, right? Because you warmongers invaded it, right? And we wonder why nobody else in the world buys the stuff coming out of the Dumbyasshole!
