Max, I rarely discuss politics on these threads because I am primarily posting about the market and how to profit from the movements in the market.
As for certain political movements, most of it has been seen before. We had Japanese interred in the 40's, fear and McCarthyism in the 50's, Vietnam in the 60's, immigration issues 100-years ago, a power-hungry executive branch when Nixon was around, protectionism in the 30's, wiretapping during the Hoover years, etc. Things seem to happen in cycles, with the closest parallel right now probably the 30's and 40's. History tends to repeat itself.
The problem I see with the end of the world and collapse of mankind proclamations is the odds and probability favor the resiliency of man. I throw my support behind the greater probability outcome during my lifetime and my children's.
You have your concerns, and I have mine. I am more concerned about bees right now because the decline of the bees threatens 1/3 of the global food supply. Frankly, that trumps most any political or sociological issue I see right now.
My other concern is probably the asteroid that is hurtling through space and has a 1 in 5000 chance of hitting earth and making us extinct in the year 2035.
These are things that have pretty large consequences for mankind, so they rank way above melamine in pet food or E-Coli in lettuce in my heirarchy of global concerns.
As for unknown cycles, we can only deal with what we have right now, and that is the known cycles.
As for myself, you are correct, I am comfortable with myself, as I have to spend so much time with myself I might as well like me <G>
As for how I view the world and what I do to make it a better place, I prefer to treat that as a private matter. You remain free to judge me and label me as you wish, as that is both your right and an apparent need. I have no problem with that.
I have had exchanges with many people on these boards over the years, and I have observed that many of the bright contributors on the boards often times have diverse personal views and personality traits.
This diversity does not negate their contributions in my opinion, and I do attempt to remain cordial and respectful of all whom I post to on the boards. I am especially loyal to those who have been kind enough to share their market knowledge over the years and pointed me in directions where I could add to my understaning of the markets. I don't forget those favors.
That is the way I approach the boards, and I understand others have their own approach. That's the freedom we enjoy, and I am glad we can participate in forums where we can have these frank exchanges. |
