CLinton's was our best economy since JFK. The reason is they both were the only ones to produce surpluses and therefore be 100% sustainable. Sadly, the GOP economies, when positive, create huge deficits. See half of Reagan's term, part of Nixon's and part of GW Bush's.

Carter was a victim. He came into power with the huge Vietnam War bill to pay off, plus the Arabs were rebeling against the US multi-nationals, and flexing their muscles with an oil embargo, plus the Shah of Iran fell. None of these were Carter's fault, yet he must accept the blame. On the other hand, Carter was our finest president on clean energy, conservation, real Christian values and making peace in Israel. He is also our finest ex-presdient, a really great role model for Americans.
