dan, I've been a mgr and director of Info. Systems for 16 yrs. I presently have a setup that has 8 servers, proliant 5000's,4500,2500's, and others. we back massive amts of gygabytes everynight and some applications like mail get realtime backs. That's why the sentence started off with computer operations. In an ISO 9000 environment you fail without great backup strategy. For your customers to certify you , you fail w/o greaat backup. the DLT has revolutionized backups. They use to be pain and now they happen and we don't worry about it. I aslo cut a cd-rom of the erp data base every month and some servers we do nightly disk to disk backs including the dlt's. Failure to backup data is an absolutel no no. Now, to home, I do a copy of data only I don't want to lose once a qtr.
