first birthday

j,

Well, Orckit is now 1 year old (public). Went back through the thread to find the date: Sept 27 seems to be it... Happy Birthday Orckit!!!

Interesting/focused posting back then... seems somewhat ironic that here we are one year later, with pieces starting to fall into place, with barely a ripple...

Guess the excitement of the honeymoon just wore off... stock price too, probably has a lot to do with it... now it's just about back to where it was at/after the ipo... For anyone who bought in then and held, the last year has been treading water... Will be surprised if we're still here next year, ... things seem to shaping up for an interesting '98 ... but...

And... as you know, the orckit ipo almost didn't happen... at least one investor was willing to step up with the $$$ all on their lonesome...

On rereading those early posts, was pleased to find that you had been working on this question I've been wondering about recently: the unnamed "well-known" us telecom operator... who in '96 was offering orctf $15 m in lieu of their ipo? Did you ever find out who this was?...

a reposting of old news (from Globes) :

July 11, 1996

"US Telecommunications Company Wishes to
Invest in Orckit Communications

By Efi Landau

A well-known US telecommunications company has submitted to Orckit Communications a proposal to make a strategic investment at a company value of some $150 million (the probable value at which Orckit is to float its US public issuance next month).

Up to 10% of the company will be sold at a consideration of some $15 million.

Orckit Communications will probably accept the proposal and cancel the issuance due to recent instability on the New York Stock Exchange and fears that the issuance may fail...."

... shouldn't bother anyone to let on now... ???

best wishes
