The Christian crusaders in the Middle Ages tried it and failed. Britain and France tried it after WW I and again after WW II. They too failed. Now the US is trying it and is staring defeat in the face. Regardless of their many mutual differences, the Muslim nations are not prepared to suffer a Christian military occupation of their own historical Muslim lands. They are prepared to pay any price, over time, in human casualties to expel the invaders from their own territories.
