I think the current estimates are 5% excess of the total carbon cycle. See my previous reply about steering. We have added a 5% upward bias to the carbon cycle. That is the problem. If you could point out any reasonable reason why some magical 5% carbon spigot was turned on and off independent of natural causes during your historical data, then you would have reason to suspect that the historical data could provide guidance wrt to the present situation. I know of no claims that such happened.
