Well I will admit there are more problems economically in the US that are harder to solve, than there are problems in the ME with loose cannons and intractable enemies. Right now the ME countries that are deeply polarized against the US/the West, have no capability to win any conflict decisively with the US or any alliance of UN countries. Right now. But given that they play dangerously with increasingly dangerous weapons, will this remain true over time? I don't think the ME countries, or Korea for that matter "get it" that verification of controls on weapons are necessary according to Salt II and Oppenheimer/Nash/Von Neumann/Teller's theories, otherwise unilateral action may become necessary. Early unilateral action is more palatable than too late. In effect the best defense for ME countries is to not arm, to verify and to be neutral. Least chance of being invaded.
