Liar. Carter let the cancer-sick Shah into the US which got our hostages captured. If he had refused the Shah entry the hostages never would have been taken. The Shah had been acting like an imperial emperor and ignoring 95% of his people for a long time before Carter got into power. He spent half his time in Europe living like a billionaire playboy. And he had a secret police which cracked down on Islamists. The US sold the Shah huge amounts of weapons. Otherwise, security in Iran was the Shah's business, but he brought his downfall on himself. He was also a dictator, so he'd become alm,ost as bad as his competition.

The rightwing is all about making up revisionist history lies to try and slime good men like Carter and Clinton while resurrecting A-holes like McCarthy and giving Reagan credit for ending the Cold War. It won't work. History is made up of facts, not spin. Carter and CLinton are both miles ahead of GW Bush as a president. Especially CLinton.

Carter was not a perfect presdient, but he was flummuxed by several major events (and a huge debtload from Vietnam) way beyond his control. You could also blame Reagan for the Lebanon bombing against our Marines, but stuff happens, like Carter's doomed rescue mission. The terrible thing about GW Bush is that he intentionally made the bad things happen. His invasion without a plan and enough troops was just asking for a calamity. And he ignored all advice but the pinheaded neocons and oil greedheads. Bush-Cheney are also so corrupt they only carfe about a few corporate interests and almost not at all about anything or anyone else.
