All true, but I'm not sure its very relevant. Some horrible and possibly immoral things may have been necessary (or better then the available alternatives), in WWII. Detaining enemy prisoners isn't immoral, and isn't even really horrible. Its the humane alternative, the other choice is to "take no prisoners", which is another term for killing all of your enemy that you can even if they want to give up.
