I think in certain very limited situations I might accept some form of torture. If you have the classic "ticking bomb" situation, and there is good reason to think the information would be obtained on time with torture, and that it won't without torture.

This is my belief as well. People don't normally want to discuss it as a legitimate rationale for "aggressive interrogation" because it conflicts with their general feelings towards physical abuse.

But let me provide an example. Anyone remember a particular LTC West, back in 2003, who fired a pistol off by the ear of a Iraqi policeman he believed was an informer for terrorists plotting to attack his men? Apparently the "aggressive interrogation" worked and got the detainee to confess.

What's not mentioned is that, as I understand it, some Macedonian SpecOps guys hunted down that group of terrorists, killed, and then decapitated them.

But that's how the Macedonians deal with terrorists.. They don't mess around.

But one more point. Interrogation is often more effective when the detainee has been caught in the act and not permitted time to come up with a "cover story". "Shock and Awe" interrogation can often produce reliable results when combined with Kinesic techniques for discerning deception.
