Nadine, your ideas of history are pretty odd. While it is true some women in the Islamic world were set up in harems, you could also say that some women in the West were as well. You pick Venice and Holland- two of the most liberal cities of the West historically. I think if you check your historical facts, you will realize that in Venice even the nuns ran brothels. On the other hand, if you were a virgin in England, or Germany, (or a wife) and of a certain caste, you were going to be virtually under lock and key (and perhaps actually under lock and key if daddy or hubby bought you a chastity belt). Ever seen the chastity belts in the museums of Europe? I realize you really really want the Moslems to be more evil than anyone else who ever lived, but unfortunately for you, they aren't. They are extremists, and as such are on a par with other extremists- when it comes to women, and when it comes to other things as well.
