re: It doesn't seem like it's really that hard to get here, and yet illegals make up what, 5% of the population?

They are all concentrated on labor. Imagine how the doctors or lawyers would bitch if they were all in their profession?

The problem is they do all the really nasty jobs, and make those jobs low paying. In the "old days" a guy had a choice; he could take an easy job and work for peanuts, or he could take a really nasty job (mostly union) and work for good pay. He had a choice, the American way. And if the people who hired the people for the "easy" jobs wanted to compete, they had to pay higher wares, raising everyone.

Now there is no competition; all the low end jobs pay the same. The average Joe can't feel a sense of pride because he is suffering through a God awful job to advance his family. He has a choice of low pay or low pay God awful job working with illegals.

It's a conservative conspiracy to keep wages down.... take my word for it. Otherwise why would Bush be for open illegal immigration and amnesty?
