Continuing education requirements for Virginia brokers and salespeople are increasing all the time. I've got to take more hours of it next year than I did the last time I renewed my license. Meanwhile, though, you look pretty sick in our real estate market if you don't have a bunch of other designations after your name, so agents spent quite a bit of time "improving themselves" in the classroom.

I worked hard to get my broker's license years ago--tough class schedule and lots of studying for exams, while trying to do my regular job and deal with the family at the same time. It's probably even harder now to comply with Virginia requirements.

I recall reading several years ago about how some states were going to require all salespeople to be brokers, but I wondered at the time just what that meant. If everyone is a broker, how strict can the requirements for becoming one actually be? Probably varies widely from state to state.

Does it mean the holder of a broker's license is actually trained and qualified to operate on his own without supervision from anybody? In the case of some salespeople I have known, it would be scary to start calling them brokers or give them that much freedom, not to mention expecting them to pass the exams. <<gg>>
