We did it for several decades and it turned out OK. If we hadn't, I'd be living (or really, probably not living given that half my family is Jewish) in Poland.

Oh,oh.....an emotional undercut to the stomach.....if it wasn't for immigration, none of us would exist. There would be no US of A. Such sentiment ignores an important point....when your Jewish ancestors fled the nazis, they had no intention of going back. For better or for worse, America was to be their new home. Most immigrants could not afford the return fare so they were here for good.

But that's not the intent of many illegals in this country. They have family back in Mexico and Central America. They intend to go back. America is a temporary waystop. Its a critical difference that plays out in many ways differently than when your ancestors emigrated to the US.

The irony in all of this is that Mexico, the primary source of illegal immigration in this country, is a very wealthy nation in its own right and if were run properly, would be able to provide its citizen an excellent way of life. Instead, corruption is rampant and the US is the escape valve that prevents revolution.

I think both countries need a bit of tough love.....send the illegals back so we can see that we can survive without them and so Mexico can learn to treat its citizens better.
