ALL:

Steve's hardware list (me) has changed his recommendation for Best IDE HD line...

The new award goes to: (get ready for this)..

FUJITSU for the MPA30XX Series

Size ranging from 1.7 to 5.25 gigs..

Reason: They rock! Seriously these are the fastest drives I have ever seen on IDE sustaining upto 15MB/S to/from the physical media (not burst speed, this is sustained), featuring udma, 128K cache, 5400RPM spindle speed.

If you do get one get the 3.5 gig model right now.. (this follows the rule of buy the drive that makes best use of the platters for the best performance/price) (i.e. the 3.5 gig is 2 platters and 4 heads vs. the 2.x drive with 2 platters and 3 heads..)

SCSI just died.

Footnote: Previous recommendation: Maxtor Diamond Max, still second choice, but fujitsu is faster and cheaper.

Steve

PS. Fuchi this is your drive, it doesn't make a sound.. even at spin up.. it's SILENT!
