i despise the market the way i despise "nature"--as i see it on PBS tv shows of crocs or lions eating others. they can't help but to, it's the "way it is". i explained my use of the word porn, and you can use it to reflect on any of your own behaviors which fit the definition, or you can reject it, which you seemed to have.
the market is not at all a casino. no one is betting against a bureaucratic "House". all are betting against each other. the anonymity, and size of the market, as i implied, seems to change the quality of that; but it doesn't.
my attitude is, if i'm going to do porn, of any type, (under my definition), i'm at least going to admit it. i'm not going to justify it; and i'm not going to condemn others for pursuing their indulgence(s) as long as the actions come from "consenting" adults. My response to M.Ritchie's book is that there is no "God In The Pits"--it's a rationalization, it's permission to do something your conscience might recoil from, maybe once did, but which your instinct--like a croc's--goads. succeeding at trading becomes further proof "God approves" of your fun and games. i find that fantastically ego-centric, however "charitable" one tries try to make one's winnings.
one other category of pornic indulgence, i mentioned this to Shalom, is religious fanaticism, of any kind. it feels so right, so good, in both meanings of "good"; but it's a poor substitute for true sobriety.
