So if 3Com were to buy the modem unit from Motorola the 56K standard would be agreed upon much sooner and to the good of the x2 camp. This leads to some interesting questions.

* Could 3Com use the Motorola name?

* How many ROK 56K cheap chips would be replaced with x2 chips?...remember the Tidal Wave upgrade program.

* What type of overseas benefits would be gained in manufacturing, distribution, retail etc.?

* Is another 10% share of the modem market enough to give 3Com/USR the de facto standard?

All this and much more on our next episode of Modem Wars!
