What an odd question, defend Islam? Who is attacking Islam? Most of the violence in the Muslim world is Muslims attacking Muslims. Elsewhere its Muslims attacking non-muslims.

I imagine the from the viewpoint of displaced Palestinians Israel is viewed as attacking Islam. Jews from all over the world can immigrate and live there as citizens, whereas Muslims from the occuppied territories cannot, and present day Israel incorporates Jerusalem and the Dome of the Rock, the 3rd most holy place in Islam. Muslims probably view the existence of Israel in its current form (Jewish immigration OK but Muslim immigration verboten) in the same way Catholics might view an Islamic group occupying and administering the Vatican...for 60+ years.

And many Muslims consider the liberal secular form of government that we take for granted to be an attack on the theocratic, restrictive form of government as codified in Islamic sharia law. 'All men created equal and the government shall make no laws about religion' is sort of the opposite of 'men and women are unequal and government shall legislate religious behaviour'.
