Many illegal immigrants aren't interested in employment.
Remember all those Western cowboy movies where the bad guys are trying to get to the Mexican border ? It works the other way, too. Lots of criminals wanted in Mexico head for the US.
Drug runners, street drug dealers, car thieves (San Diego has some places with really high auto theft rates).
Many occupations and small businesses don't have their ids checked. Landscape and construction easily come to mind. You check all the worker's credentials when you hire them in January, but who is doing the work in March ? Some guy in a baseball who may or may not be the person you checked out.
Many other occupations are like this, freelance graphic artist, software writer, bargirl, swimming pool cleaner.
Employment ID will stop factor work, and some large percentage of agricultural and food service workers. It would still miss well over 2 million people, and many of the worst ones.
You also have all the dependents who use public services, like education, health care, highways, etc.

It is also not the work I have so much of an issue with - it is they are in the US - my country - illegally. |
