FYI XDSL is not compatible with pots because it stretches the bandwidth beyond that which pots exchange eqpt can handle. The only way to use xDSL technology is to have a leased line between the user and the ISP's premises. Actually, leased lines are not very expensive and the phone co. has to make them available at a reasonable price for users such as security and utility cos.

On another subject, I've noticed that cable modems are becoming available in my neighborhood. Just imagine, 2-3M Baud rates and none of this dial-up BS that one has to do with conventional modems. All at a price slightly higher than that of a second line and individual ISP service.

Overall, this may not be beneficial to ASND because dial-up eqpt. has traditionally been their strong suit. I doubt that the cable modems will have big impact right away - might take a couple of years.

Our venerable phone Co. may not see whats happening here. Over a period of time, the cable co. will get their network up, start making revenues and seriously encroach on some of the other services that phone cos. traditionally offer. I will venture to predict that ISDN service prices will fall in this environment.

Whateever the case, ASND won't get shut out but they will have to adapt in order to continue growing as they have.
