I thought the question was fine as stated. Good survey questions don't aim for logical comparability or even mutually exclusive categories. They aim rather to tap into respondents sentiments as well as possible.

Do you think the West (the capitalist, secular, democratic, civil, free societies of the world) have been trying to weaken and divide the Islamic World (whatever that is) for the past 100-200 years? Well, we have. Secular life by definition weakens and divides religions. Prior to secular government religious organizations had the power, with the implementation of secular government the politicians have the power. Look at how the West has replaced weakened the Catholic church relative to its position in society 500 years ago.

And what is the "Islamic world"? Is a Muslim in Australia a member due to his faith? Is a Lebanese Christian a member due to his location? Is a non-practicing Muslim in Egypt a member even though he doesn't believe in his parent's religion? Do Kuwaitis think the West is weakening the Islamic world even though the West kept them in existence, or is that nationality and not part of the discussion?

It's a poor choice of terms for comparison. It's logically impossible for the secular world to strengthen and unite the Islamic world in any form other than as an enemy. It's like asking Catholics if legalizing abortion and condoms weakens the "Catholic world". How could it not if Catholics believe they should do what the Pope tells them and not have abortions and not use condoms.
