Removing Saddams regime, is removing a regime that subjugated the Iraqi people. Fighting off the baathists, keeps the Iraqi people from a similar subjugation, while fighting off the jihadis prevents a different form of subjugation.

Who's out to subjugate? Well lets look at what happened if all opposition ceased. If all opposition to the baathist ceased, you would have a regime similar to the old one, and the people would be subjugated. If all opposition to the jihadis ceased, then the people would be subjugated by a theocracy. If all violent opposition to the US and to the Iraqi government ceased, you would have a country that was more free and democratic, then almost any other in the region. US involvement would decrease, and everyone, except for maybe the hard core jihadis and baathists would be better off.

Do you think the jihadis and baathists we fight really are there to help anyone but themselves?
