He also failed to appreciate the arrogance of his opinion---the notion that whether we understand something dictates the behavior of others. Obviously his point was to lay blame on the U.S. for ME unrest, despite the fact that those problems pre-existed the birth of this country.

The corollary to lack of understanding as a cause is that caring can fix things.
