I used to get Stratfor emails. They are put out as if they were generated by the US Navy intelligence it seems.

I would say that Stratfor is government connected much the same way that CNN is. But right wing. Ted is a tad left, or not?

The dateline on my emails indicate they were coming from the decks of the USS Forrestal. All the intelligence they had
was genuine sounding and up to the minute.

You have to realize that the Forrestal was decomissioned and is being prepared to be sunk as a floating reef.

Now I don't know if that was an editorial device, or an inside joke. I never saw anything in the stratfor stuff that indicated it was apocryphal. stratfor.com

"In my opinion, Stratfor engages in circulating disinformation into the datasphere through its free and paid email memos in ways that seem aimed to help the agendas of that very same corporate world that contracts its services."

All in all, I could not comment on the accuracy of the Stratfor statement about Larrea's policies, but it is in line with his stated thinking and past policy statements. I don't think his government would be wise to go down that road, but Ecuador has a history of some pretty off the wall forays. One thing is in favour of it not being serious, in the Ecuador changes governments often enough that the policy would probably only be effective for ten months at the most.
