Yeah, that is also the reason why soldiers' families have to buy armor for their children.

Except that they don't. As I said before there was enough body armor available. But some people thought a new type of armor was better, and wanted to give that armor (rather then the standard issue) to their relatives in Iraq.

Actually some tests show it may not be better, and in some ways its worse, in particular its heavier. But even if it is better, that doesn't mean that the soldiers didn't have body armor before the families starting buying some.

As for your link, these are largely for new systems. For the most part other armies don't even have these available to request. They just do without. I ask again, name one army that's better equipped, and has more logistical support then our army. You can put forward the name of any army, current or past, including our own army in the past. You won't find one.
