The only interpretations of ME events that should matter to us are the interpretations that lead to correct assessments, and the very best policy choices for the US.

You could get serious arguments as to whether there is a consensual view as the "correct assessments" are given conflicts as to which version of US interests should be front and center. Clearly Cheney et al have a very different set than you and I might have. And we only have the piddling vote on our side. His guys have the inside track.
