Diet modification and exercise will be the first choice of treatment by your Dr ( most likely first choice of endocrinologists for Type II diabetics).

You have some time, most likely, before you need medicine to help out if you are truly diabetic.

As always, my comments are general and you should use your Dr's advice before the advice of anyone else.
