It's a recipe for chaos, which people dislike as much as the idea of gasoline taxes.

Hmmmm, but I like the gasoline tax. Yah I know, not a libertarian stand. Maybe I am just a contrarian? What better way to reduce our dependency on foreign oil than to raise the tax - a lot.

you are mixing whether politicians are doing something that can hurt the currency with the value of generally regulating the currency and the system that it circulates in

I'm not sure I am. Politicians are of course part of the problem - but I give much of the blame to Greenspan. (We'll have to wait for some on Bernanke). Greenspan by flooding the economy with dollars while at the same time unrealisticly lowering the interest rate has caused the bubbles. Housing. How this plays out is not yet known. It is an interesting experiment that will likely be studied forever once we know how it does plays out.

You bring out very good points and not being a Libertarian expert, I am placed in a position of defending something I know little about. Where do you suggest I place my allegiance? Being a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, an environmentalist and generally not trusting government? I listen to Paul and like what I hear. Not agreeing with all aspects for sure but he has some great ideas that we should all consider I believe.
