Before we start to put all our efforts into GPS satellite system quadruple play developments, we have to some how by process of elimination, straighten out the Mpeg4 decoder standards that will fit all the encoders on the market.

Most encoders are only 70% in compliance with the Mpeg4/h.264/AVC decoder. You may have to sacrifice either resolution or color depth to satisfy 100% compliance. the trade off is compression ratio. Broadcasting camera encoders seemed to have the best promise of 100% compliance to Mpeg4. But it does not apply to existing video data such as movies. So, movies will need a special encoder. Personal digital Camcorders are a different breed, and will have to use their own encoders/decoders. DirecTV and Dish use their own encoders for their data transmission. Zooming feature between profiles(baseline, extended, main and hugh) is difficult because of nonlinearity(uneven ratio).

Eventually, all encoders will have to unify for 100% compliance with the standard Mpeg4 decoder.
