That actually is a big problem but maybe not for the reason you think.

His answer -- it is far too easy for patients to sue doctors in this country.

One unintended consequence of frivolous lawsuits is that doctors are forced to practice defensive medicine--a whole lot (a huge number) of tests performed are done not because they are medically necessary but because of malpractice consequences if they aren't done. Multiply that by thousands of patients and there's billions wasted in healthcare that could be better spent in treating people in a more conservative fashion. You would be shocked to find out the dumb things people sue doctors for.
