Lucius,

Re: Competition

Where is the competition for the PII-300?? Where is the competition for Tilamook?? Which competitor has their .25 processes up and running?? Caught up.......hardly?? Maybe on some chips and some benchmarks...if you don't do heavy number crunching...but in general INTC still has a significant lead in products and process technology.

From a business perspective, competition has never been weaker....thus enters in the FTC investigation.....Cyrix virtually driven out of business unable to survive financially as an independent company was forced to sell out. AMD is once again losing money as fast as Intel is making it. In fact, in this latest attempt to "catch" Intel, AMD only enjoyed a very brief period of profitability. Cyrix and AMD usually enjoy one or two quarters of profit when they first introduce a new product simply due to channel fill.

The more things change the more they stay the same. The biggest threat AMD and Cyrix/NSM pose to Intel is that they continue stumble and thus continue to give Uncle Sam a reason to waste tax payer dollars looking into Intel.

I have been following this industry for many years and one thing that never changes is the periodic notion that AMD and Cyrix are just about to give Intel a serious challenge. I've heard this more times than INTC has split. The reality is that AMD and Cyrix/NSM will only continue to get the crumbs measured out carefully and left behind by Intel.
