Watched Apocalypto last night.

It was a fast paced, extremely violent look at the Mayan empire. Marauding bands of Mayan slave traders attacked what were otherwise peaceful villages killing many and taking survivors captive for various purposes.

Gibson tried to illuminate the experience of people living in a world dominated by fear and death, and he did an excellent job.

Even though it was not an issue what so ever during the movie, the eventual transformation from paganism to Christianity was the underlying theme. The movie left me questioning the consequences of discovery by Europeans, and I came away thinking that it was the best thing that could have happened to these people despite some of the hardships that accompanied that discovery.

It is not a movie to be taken lightly or watched by anyone with a squeamish disposition.

The entire movie was dubbed and the acting and directing were superb.
