Crimson > The terms put forth by the Iranians are so close to the U.S. position on Iraq that, with little exception, they could have been printed on State Department stationary and no one would have noticed the difference. If these are the terms Washington and Tehran are in fact discussing, then we are witnessing an extraordinary turn in the Iraq war in which the U.S. and Iranian blueprints for Iraq are finally aligning. It does not surprise us, then, that Crocker said after his meeting in Baghdad that the Iranian position "was very close to our own" at the level of policy and principle.

Under NO circumstances, will Izzy allow this. This is complete anathema to everything Izzy and the neocons have been working for for years. Even if Izzy has to start a war with Iran himself, the last thing on the agenda is that peace can prevail. Of course, the US desires nothing more than to get out of Iraq ASAP, so we are looking at a tremendous conflict of interest between the US, which is in pain and tired of war, and its boss, Izzy, who is sticking his spurs in even further and doing whatever he can to keep up the momentum for war.

Looks like it's time for another 9/11-type event.
