What your flight instructor teaches you is quite different from what you practice once you get the license. Years ago I had a private license and really enjoyed flying. After about 3 years and a couple of near accidents that were totally caused by the other pilot's carelessness, I gave it up. I was only a few hours short of earning my commercial license. I never flew again as the pilot. My son did the same thing, even building his own airplane from a kit. He gave it up a couple years ago for much the same reason.
