Beyond the smoking argument, the definition of privately owned establishments as "public areas", and the implication that almost any type of control can be imposed on them because they are "public" is dangerous to out liberty.

A bar is the property of its owner, in the same way that his house is. It is his, it doesn't belong the public, anymore than his house would if he had a party and invited anyone who wanted to to show up.
