ken, oral is right....

there are 2 things i recommend for people doing stationary workouts...

one is a pulse rate monitor like this (lots of choices and price points):

polar-usa.us

and some type of mp3 player (i use an Ipod)

i realize these 2 items will set you back a little bit of money, but it is amazing how the combination of the immediate feedback of your pulse rate and properly selected music (meaning sufficient beats per minute, helping you to maintain your pace) helps the time go by...

that said, start out with 15 or 20 minutes and gradually add a few minutes every week....before you know it you will be up to 40 minutes per day.....

some people watch TV while they are exercising.....i personally do not find that helpful....music for me is much more interesting and helpful in keeping up the pace...

also do consider an elliptical machine.....for some reason stationary bikes add to the boredom for me (unless i'm taking a spinning class)

and if you have access to a gym, another way of breaking up the monotony is to break your 40 to 60 minute workout into different exercise modes, for example, 15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 on the elliptical, and another 15 on the bike
