"A few posts back he said that if any country exercised such an option they would be answerable to us. That is not only imperialistic. It promotes a double standard."

It's not a double standard. We have the right to decide for ourselves when or if we will strike another country. That doesn't mean we will never have to answer for our actions. When we make that decision we will answer to stakeholders for our decision. There may not be much they should or could do about it depending on the circumstances or the consequences may be costly and dire, as in Iraq. Other countries can decide for themselves what to do, if they decide to attack us we have every right to hold them accountable and to respond in any way we deem appropriate. We have the upper hand with regards to military might in most cases but having the upper hand is not a double standard.
