Unless you are using 'political issue' in a much broader sense than is commonly attributed to political issue, I don't see it. American political principles are of course an umbrella for every idea that comes under government. But if you are using the term that broadly I don't see the application to anything. When I use the term, political issue in this case, I meant it in terms of liberally vs conservatively influenced issue.

The Justice system is by definition blind to such influences, although maybe not in practice.

The largest employer in the nation is the school system and it is supposed to be providing a non-partisan education.

Funding for any beneficial phenomenon in America should be determined solely on it's benefit as defined. Unless that definition is to increase the stature of partisan representation, I consider it a corruption of intent. Scientific inquiry is high on my list of things that should be sheltered, from being funded as a tool to gain political influence.
