I don't care about your "natural right" to be a racist.

I'm not a racist, nor am I defending racism. But people do indeed have a right to be racist. Racism is a thought, opinion, feeling, or state of mind. The idea of "thought-crime" is a dangerous one if you remove it from the fictional setting of "1984" and try to apply it to the real world. That true no matter how awful the thoughts are.

In this case the law in question doesn't ban being a racist. It isn't a law against some "thought crime". Its a law that infringes on freedom of association. Its very similar to a law that said you had to invite over, or even live with members of a group of people you don't like.

The political and rhetorical problem of attacking such laws, is that you are indeed defending the legality of obnoxious actions. But not everything that is obnoxious should be illegal. Obnoxious people have rights too, and to the extent their rights are trampled on with impunity, all of our rights become more subject to potential infringement.
